ABOUT PEAPS

Since 1987, members of the Pulp Era Amateur Press Society have offered research and commentary on the pulp magazines, their contributors, and their legacy.

PEAPS — founded by the late Lynn Hickman in 1987 and still active today — focuses on all aspects of the pulp magazine hobby and related topics. Current members and alumni include some of the most accomplished pulp magazine fans and professionals in the world, including Al Tonik, Glenn Lord, Howard DeVore, Jerry Page, George Evans, Rusty Hevelin, Mike Ashley, Doug Ellis, Will Murray, Anthony Tollin, Brian Earl Brown, and Curt Phillips.

The Rules

  • Mailings are quarterly, due on the 15th of February, May, August, and November.
  • Membership is set at 28. A “waitlist” will be formed if more wish to apply. Invitations to join will be on a “first on, first in” basis.
  • Dues are $16 a year (four mailings).
  • Required activity is a minimum of six pages of original material per two mailings. (i.e., the sum of your contribution in the current mailing and the previous mailing must equal or exceed six.) Contributions must be made to at least every other mailing.
  • 30 copies of your contribution are required.
  • Back mailings are available for sale 30 days after the mailing goes out. Lost bundles to members have first priority. The remainder will be offered for sale on a first-come basis for $8 a bundle for members and waitlisters, $12 for others.
  • The Popular Culture Library at Bowling Green University has been designated as a repository of one PEAPS mailing each quarter.
